Do you want to know about Batman’s new motorcycle, Black Adam’s fight against a helicopter, Aquaman’s last ally or Shazam going on a date with Wonder Woman? Of course yes. All that and more was in the images that Warner Bros showed at the CinemaCon event, of his next four DC movies: Black AdamShazam: Fury of the Gods, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and finally, Flash.

The studio kicked off the panel by announcing the news that Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson would officially return in Batman 2, but that movie is years away. Meanwhile, four movies are in post-production, with release dates beginning in October, por what exhibitors (as well as the press) got to see a few minutes of each. This is what we saw.

Of course, in situations like this, it’s always important to keep in mind that these mini-trailers are shown once and cannot be recorded. So what follows are general impressions and some key moments. It is literally impossible to take note of everything, but we do the best we can.

Black Adam

Although it was the last movie they showed, Black Adam is the first to hit theaters on October 21, and what was screened felt like a sneak peek that they might release for everyone in the future. It begins with a snow-capped mountain and a high-tech plane flying by, the shape and movement of which reminded us of Wakanda’s aerial vehicles in Black Panther. The plane lands somewhere and a body in a transparent coffin is unloaded and filled with water, almost like a Bacta tank in The Empire Strikes Back. The voiceover explains that this person was born a slave, was killed, and was later reborn as God. (There are also images of him being slit and thrown into a well.) We see him in a cave with huge stones and then eventually in a cape and a group of men shooting at him with machine guns. He slowly gets up from the ground and all the bullets go flying.

Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan) explains to this man, who is obviously Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, that he has the power to be a hero, but he chooses to be a destroyer. “I don’t kneel to anyone,” says Adam. There are a lot of quick shots, of some of the members of the Justice Society of America, Black Adam walking around with his cape and suit on, he seems to shoot a bolt of lightning from his hands and then he flies through the air and shoots down a helicopter. He then lands on a desert road and is nearly hit by a car. The two people in the vehicle have no idea what they’re looking at and slowly start to make their way out when someone fires a rocket, but Black Adam catches it. “Did you just catch that rocket?” the driver asks before the explosion, but they’re safe because Adam took most of the hit.

Some more shots of the Justice Society of America are followed by Adam standing face to face with Hawkman. “Heroes don’t kill people,” says Hawkman. To which Adam replies, “Well, I do.” Then the trailer ends with a guy trying to hit Adam in the head with a metal bar, the bar bends over his head and Adam throws him.

For one thing, just from a visual standpoint, the footage reminded us of Black Panther. The cinematography, a similar balance of warm blended colors and brilliant technology, as well as the shot compositions, editing decisions, and ship designs, all feel like they’re an influence from Marvel’s success. And yet, tonally, it’s hard to imagine what it will be Black Adam. Is Dwayne Johnson really going to become this character? Or will it just be Johnson wearing a superhero suit? We’ll find out soon.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods

A few weeks after Black Adamthe DC universe will continue with Shazam: Fury of the Gods on December 16. This preview begins in Paris. In a restaurant overlooking the Eiffel Tower, Shazam is sitting and tells someone that he doesn’t want to be in a relationship. He’s just not ready to commit. As the camera pans back, we see Wonder Woman’s unmistakable costume. She gets up and storms off, but he stops her. He explains that he wants to be with her, but it’s a complex situation. He mentions that her relationship name might be She-Zam and she finally relents and says that he wants to be with her, which is when she turns away. And it’s actor Djimon Hounsou, superimposed over where we expect Gal Gadot’s head to be. And then he tells Billy to wake up.

Billy was dreaming, and now Hounsou’s character explains that a war of the worlds is about to begin. A barrier has collapsed and now the gods cross it, so he and his family have to save the world. Above all of this are images of Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu’s characters in god-like superhero outfits like Hespera and Kalypso, respectively, wreaking havoc.

Next, all the kids hang out at home and start getting ready to go out. The parents ask where they are going and Darla says, “We’re going to fight crime.” Parents take it as a joke, but it is not. This is soon followed by a scene of Shazam sitting with Hespera in what appears to be a fast food restaurant playground. Shazam explains that he has seen all the movies of fast and furious and that the key to saving the world is, he pauses, “Family!” He looks around as if something was supposed to happen, it doesn’t. “Family, family, family, come on, that was supposed to be the sign,” she says, and finally the superhero version of his family appears. There was also a lot of footage of Billy’s brothers in the suits, but to be honest he was too amused by the nod to the fact that Helen Mirren is in the franchise. fast and furious.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which arrives in March 2023, probably showed the fewest footage among the four films, but was joined by director James Wan. Wan made it clear that this movie would explore new worlds, reveal new characters, and more. At the center of it all though, aside from Aquaman of course, is Black Manta. In this film, Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) is a man on a mission. We saw him in command of some sort of advanced submarine (with Randall Park’s character now working for him). He is wearing the full Manta suit and looks like he has been infected with something.

Wan explained that much of the film will be about Aquaman, aka Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa), asking his brother Orm (Patrick Wislon), who was captured at the end of the first film, to help him defeat Black Manta. . That’s how powerful Manta has become: Arthur needs his evil brother to save the day. They showed shots of the two at odds, walking through the woods together, and more. We take a look at some new ships, which look like the Sentinels from The Matrixand a picture of Orm and what appears to be the great robot from The Incredibles rising behind him.

Once again, there were not many images of the film known in Spanish as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdombut you have a feeling that its size will dwarf all these other movies.

Flash

Lastly, we saw a bunch of new footage from Flashwhich will be released on June 23, 2023. Which, perhaps unsurprisingly after the news For the past few weeks, they focused less on Ezra Miller’s titular character and more on another hero fans are excited to see again: The Dark Knight. The footage started with Barry in some kind of office and talks about how time has a pattern. Certain events and certain people are always attracted to each other. He is at first talking to a camera, but we also see him outside his childhood home, in a new Flash outfit, looking sad.

Then, from behind, we see a man with long gray hair in pajamas. He is standing on a bookshelf when a laser reveals itself and does a retina scan. The book shelves open and we see a room with at least five, maybe more, Batsuits. Tim Burton Batsuits. Everything new and different.

“How do you explain that with something other than fate?” Barry says, ending his thought about time. That leads to a montage of action scenes. Lots of slow motion as Barry does things super fast, a brief shot of Supergirl (Sasha Calle), a scene of Batman (although it’s not clear which one) on a motorcycle that looks like the one from Dark Knight. However, it is not that bike, this one only has two wheels at the front, which are very thin and close to each other. There’s also a broken bat hood on the ground, all of which leads into the shot we’ve already seen of the multiple Barrys asking someone “Will you participate?”

We cut to Michael Keaton, with gray hair, in a new, but still recognizable Batman suit. “Do you want to go crazy? Let’s get crazy,” he says, quoting himself many years earlier.

The footage, while incredibly impressive, made it seem almost as if Keaton’s Batman was the film’s second lead. Which maybe it is. Or, perhaps this footage was cut specifically to make CinemaCon attendees think more about a new Batman movie in their theaters, and not an Ezra Miller movie. Either way, it’s going to be an interesting 10 months before Flash hit the billboards.

Again, Black Adam will be in theaters on October 21, Shazam 2 will be in theaters on December 16, Aquaman 2 will be released on March 17, 2023 and Flash It will premiere on June 23, 2023.
