WWE SmackDown April 29, 2022: coverage and results

Tonight we will again enjoy the minute by minute of Friday Night SmackDown that will be broadcast pre-recorded from the MVP Arena in Albany, New York. If you want to read the coverage live, go to the bottom of the news and extend the live report.


Episode Summary


– Drew McIntyre defeated Sami Zayn in a Steel Cage match. Drew pushes Sami towards the cage and starts throwing him against the mat. Zayn tries to escape, but it takes strength to crash him into the walls and land a Sunset Flip Powerbomb on the way to the first commercial break. McIntyre recovers, but falls on one of the ropes with his legs raised. Sami takes height and is about to go down to ringside, but Drew catches him for a Superplex. Claymore Kick and count of three for victory.


charlotte flair is interviewed backstage. The women’s champion clarifies that what happened last week means nothing, and tonight she will prove that she is superior in the Beat the Clock Challenge.


Happy Corbin comes out on stage for his “Happy Talk”. Corbin promises that his show will never again feature Madcap Moss’s insufferable jokes. He clarifies that he is “his creation of him” of him, and will take it upon himself to destroy him at WrestleMania Backlash. Corbin tries to destroy the Andre the Giant Battle Royal trophy, but mad cap moss appears by surprise and takes him away from the ring after a very personal physical exchange.


– Ricochet defeats Shanky and retains the Intercontinental Championship. Shanky lands several blows with his trademark brute force, but his opponent escapes and starts a much more effective counterattack. Ricochet looks for height, but Jinder Mahal makes him lose his balance. “The One and Only” escapes from a Powerslam and catches his rival for the count of three. After the match, Mahal argues with Shanky and they both walk out of the ring separately.


– Raquel Rodriguez defeats a local competitor in a few minutes. Despite taking some punishment, Rodriguez manages to get past his opponent until he lands the Chokeslam.


The Usos and RK-Bro enter the ring for the contract signing on the way to WrestleMania Backlash. After capturing both signatures, a brief comment from Randy Orton begins the action in the ring. Roman Reigns enters the scene and helps his companions from The Bloodline. ¡Drew McIntyre appears in defense of RK-Bro! Drew and Roman exchange blows, with the ultimate champion being thrown out of the ring.

Behind the scenes, Paul Heyman proposes to Adam Pearce to add Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre to the match of champions in pairs. Pearce sows the unknown regarding his decision for the event.


– Naomi defeats Shayna Baszler. Baszler and Naomi are very close. The first locks her rival in the corner, but the second manages to escape several locks and throws her rival over the corner. Account of three and Naomi’s victory. After the match, the tag team champions are attacked by Shayna and Natalya.

WWE commentators confirm that Butch has been lost, and they propose to the fans a campaign on social networks with the mention #WheresButch.

It’s official: Drew McIntyre and RK-Bro will face The Bloodline at WrestleMania Backlash. The official announcement fails to mention the unification of the RAW and SmackDown Tag Team Championships.


– Xavier Woods defeats Ridge Holland. The one from “The New Day” dominates before the commercial break. Holland evades a jump and connects a lock to the neck before receiving a counterattack from his rival. He tries to finish with an Elevated Suplex, but receives a Roll-Up and the count of three.


– Sheamus defeats Kofi Kingston. Kofi accepts Sheamus’s challenge for a heads up right then and there. “The Celtic Warrior” dominates the fight and punishes the chest and back of his rival. Kofi responds with an SOS and takes height, but receives the Brogue Kick for the victory for three.


Lacey Evans continues to tell his life story, focusing on his first steps in the United States Army.


Start the Beat the Clock Challenge. Ronda Rousey goes first, and defines the time to be overcome by Charlotte Flair.


– Ronda Rousey defeats Shotzi in one minute and 40 seconds. Through an armbar, Shotzi marks the surrender on the canvas


– Aliyah defeats Charlotte Flair by time limit. The young competitor is outclassed by Charlotte, but she resists the Figure Eight long enough to reach the time limit.

Charlotte Flair takes it out on Drew Gulak, who rang the bell throughout the episode. “The Queen” attacks him in the ring and raises his title to close the episode.
